What the map shows
The map simulates statistical times from annual data. It does not report individual events actually happening now. Point counters show currently visible simulated points; the timeline records only regular points observed during the session.
Random points within a country are a display model, not actual event locations or regional consumption hotspots. Earthquakes retain their historical USGS epicentres. Start examples are labelled and excluded from counts. Background gaps are not replayed.
Original years, national definitions and recording boundaries differ. Tables are alphabetical and do not provide a reliable country ranking. With mixed source years, the breakdown of death points is a display model, not an exact balance of causes. Point quantities and fade durations do not change annual values.

State-based conflicts only, assigned by location within national borders. UCDP best estimate of direct deaths in state-based armed conflicts at the event location, including civilian and military deaths. Not a complete account of all direct or indirect war deaths. UCDP recording thresholds apply. A reported zero means no recorded deaths in this category, not necessarily absence of all violence. Original year 2025; no addition of non-state conflicts or one-sided violence and no extrapolation from 2026 candidate months.

- UNODC Violent and Sexual Crime – selected registered offences, country years 2023–2024
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); nationale Strafverfolgungsbehörden · Retrieved 2026-10-05 · Original data dated 28 September 2026; metadata dated 12 July 2026
Original source · Definitions and metadata
Our selection of four UNODC offence groups: serious assault (ICCS 020111), robbery (0401), kidnapping (020221) and sexual violence (0301). Not an official total of violent crime or all crime. Registered offences from police and law-enforcement records, not victims or convictions. Subtypes of sexual violence are not added to their parent group. Each country's latest complete original year, 2023–2024; all four groups always from the same year. Mixed country years remain stated. Missing groups make the country value unknown; no partial sums, extrapolation or invented zeros. Recorded crime: reporting behaviour, national law, counting rules and recording stages differ. These data do not measure actual violence prevalence or support a reliable country ranking. The sum over known map areas controls only the simulation for these covered countries. It is not a worldwide violence count; unknown countries receive no substitute points. An incident may involve several registered offences; an offence point is neither a unique violent act nor a victim. Intentional homicide is excluded from this selection; incidents may overlap with other categories. Officially reported zeros are retained as source values. They establish neither absence of violence nor complete recording. UK subnational areas are not extrapolated to the whole United Kingdom. Random polygon points are statistical display locations, not crime scenes or live reports.
- World Development Indicators – GDP (current US$), NY.GDP.MKTP.CD, 2024
World Bank · Retrieved 2026-10-05 · WDI API lastupdated: 2026-07-13

Nominal GDP in current US dollars: annual value added, not business turnover, money transfers or the number of actual transactions. Current prices are not inflation-adjusted; conversion to US dollars includes exchange-rate effects. Not a purchasing-power-adjusted prosperity comparison. WDI combines national accounts, OECD data and World Bank estimates. The API does not identify each value here as official or estimated; all figures are conservatively shown as estimates. One point bundles USD 1,000,000 of the annual value by default. Statistical times and random country locations are a display model, not current payments or regional economic centres. Only original national values for 2024; world and regional aggregates excluded. Missing values remain unknown. No allocation of aggregates to countries.
- EU Postal Survey 2024 – national CEP dispatches (domestic + outbound)
European Commission, DG GROW; national postal regulatory authorities · Retrieved 2026-10-05 · JSON-stat POST_CUBE1_X; updated 2026-03-26T08:34:24+0100
Original source · Definitions and metadata · Source licence statement: European Commission reuse policy; source attribution, national reporting boundaries apply
Courier, express and parcel (CEP) items, including small parcels; courier/express items may include documents. Not a goods-parcel-only count or a letter-post series. Domestic plus outbound international traffic, using only complete national pairs for 2024. Incoming parcels are not added; a cross-border item counts in the sending country. EU Postal Survey: national regulators report aggregated operator figures; national methods and recording boundaries may differ. No fully known world total. Missing or confidential components remain unknown. No supplementation from individual operators or filling with zero. Differing definitions (flag d) and not-applicable values (z) are excluded. Quantities come from statistics in thousands of items; original rounding is retained. Annual quantities and times are not current individual reports. Random positions within the sending country are a display model, not real depots, senders, delivery locations or regional dispatch centres.
- GCP fossil CO₂ emissions dataset 2025v15 – territorial country values for 2024

Territorial fossil CO₂ emissions: oxidation of fossil fuels including combustion, flaring and decomposition of fossil carbonates including cement processes. Excludes total greenhouse gases/CO₂ equivalents, land use/LULUCF and biogenic CO₂ emissions. Original Total column in Mt CO₂/year, multiplied by 1,000,000 for tonnes CO₂/year. No separate deduction for cement carbonation; this country series is not the global EFOS balance adjusted for that sink. Territorial accounting, not a consumption-based footprint. International aviation/shipping and world/regional aggregates are not distributed across countries and are absent from the animatable map sum. National statistics and scientific estimates; uncertainty and recording boundaries vary. Missing figures remain unknown. France/Monaco, Italy/Holy See and Morocco/Western Sahara are combined source areas and are not assigned to a single country. Poisson simulation of annual quantities, not current individual reports. Random country points are not emission sources, factories or regional concentrations. Bundles change neither annual quantities nor the modelled annual rate. Andrew, R. M. & Peters, G. P. U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) · Retrieved 2026-10-05
Original source · Definitions and metadata · Source licence statement: EIA government data: public domain; acknowledge EIA and publication/retrieval date. Source-series copyright field: None. https://www.eia.gov/about/copyrights_reuse.php
Original EIA series: Refined petroleum products consumption. Product scope replaces the earlier JODI definition; these series are not identical measurements. Biofuels/biogenic blends included by the source are not subtracted. EIA's US explanation explicitly includes biofuels; no claim of exclusively fossil petroleum quantities. Definition: https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=33&t=10 and https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/use-of-oil.php Consumption may be based on product supplied or apparent consumption and include statistical estimates; not a direct measure of actual combustion or current individual events. Non-energy products are included. Volume conversion: annual average in thousand barrels/day × 1,000 × actual calendar days × 158.987294928 litres/barrel. No density assumptions; rounded to whole litres without a claim of such precision. EIA bulk data provide no separate country uncertainty values or estimate flags for this series. Missing flags do not demonstrate measurement accuracy; original metadata are retained. World view uses known map areas only, without global extrapolation or allocation of regional aggregates. Random polygon points are a display model, not consumption locations.
