Sources and methodology
What the map shows
The map simulates statistical times from annual data. It does not report individual events actually happening now. Point counters show currently visible simulated points; the timeline records only regular points observed during the session.
Random points within a country are a display model, not actual event locations or regional consumption hotspots. Earthquakes retain their historical USGS epicentres. Start examples are labelled and excluded from counts. Background gaps are not replayed.
Original years, national definitions and recording boundaries differ. Tables are alphabetical and do not provide a reliable country ranking. With mixed source years, the breakdown of death points is a display model, not an exact balance of causes. Point quantities and fade durations do not change annual values.

Our selection of four UNODC offence groups: serious assault (ICCS 020111), robbery (0401), kidnapping (020221) and sexual violence (0301). Not an official total of violent crime or all crime. Registered offences from police and law-enforcement records, not victims or convictions. Subtypes of sexual violence are not added to their parent group. Each country's latest complete original year, 2023–2024; all four groups always from the same year. Mixed country years remain stated. Missing groups make the country value unknown; no partial sums, extrapolation or invented zeros. Recorded crime: reporting behaviour, national law, counting rules and recording stages differ. These data do not measure actual violence prevalence or support a reliable country ranking. The sum over known map areas controls only the simulation for these covered countries. It is not a worldwide violence count; unknown countries receive no substitute points. Biofuels/biogenic blends included by the source are not subtracted. EIA's US explanation explicitly includes biofuels; no claim of exclusively fossil petroleum quantities. Definition: https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=33&t=10 and https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/use-of-oil.php Consumption may be based on product supplied or apparent consumption and include statistical estimates; not a direct measure of actual combustion or current individual events. Non-energy products are included. Volume conversion: annual average in thousand barrels/day × 1,000 × actual calendar days × 158.987294928 litres/barrel. No density assumptions; rounded to whole litres without a claim of such precision. EIA bulk data provide no separate country uncertainty values or estimate flags for this series. Missing flags do not demonstrate measurement accuracy; original metadata are retained. World view uses known map areas only, without global extrapolation or allocation of regional aggregates. Random polygon points are a display model, not consumption locations.

Supplements only twelve national/territorial 2024 values missing from WDI; existing WDI values remain unchanged. UNSD uses national accounts sources and documented trend/deflator estimates; not an official census of all supplementary values. Original UNSD value in current US dollars, with no currency conversion by us. UNSD generally uses annual average rates; adjusted or UN operational rates may be used where official rates are unrealistic. The export does not flag the specific exchange-rate method by value; USD comparisons may be strongly distorted. Unchanged original figures in nominal USD, not PPP or business turnover. No allocation of Mainland Tanzania/Zanzibar or other source areas to map countries.

National procedural definitions differ; no harmonised international ranking or world total. Proceedings, not a unique count of closed businesses or current individual reports. Original publication for 2024; later register revisions may change the figures. UK: company insolvencies in England/Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland; excludes Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. Unadjusted annual counts of registered/initiated proceedings. Not all registrations represent cases newly started in the same period. A CVL directly following administration is not counted again. Transitions to compulsory liquidation/CVA may, however, be counted again as proceedings. England/Wales: bulk CVLs excluded; moratoriums and restructuring plans excluded from this total. Scotland includes provisional liquidations. Compulsory liquidations in England/Wales come from a continually revised system; publication snapshot 21 January 2025 is provisional.

- Wind energy in Europe 2025 – Figure 9, page 23
WindEurope · Retrieved 2026-10-05 · February 2026
Original counts of newly installed onshore turbines in 2025 from Figure 9, page 23. Offshore bars and adjacent MW/average capacity values are not used. WindEurope describes gross installations by site/country, including new replacement/repowering turbines; not net stock growth. No conversion from MW. The report includes estimates for undisclosed values. Spain explicitly reports an estimated 276 turbines; these remain labelled as an estimate. Countries, national recording boundaries and original years differ. Countries absent from the chart retain the previously documented source year or remain unknown, never implicitly zero. Ukraine and Switzerland remain unknown because new/used/repowering boundaries do not clearly match. Denmark's national register including small turbines and Germany's separate 2025 source remain unchanged. Statistical simulation times and random map locations; not actual construction events or documented regional building sites.

National registered totals, not regional sales locations or actual real-time reports. Eurostat collects the voluntary Common Questionnaire series from national sources.
